How do I go about ordering a cake?

Pre-bookings are required as we do not pre-bake and store our cakes. They are baked fresh “just” for your event. A lot of time and energy is put into making and decorating a cake designed just for you. Therefore, we require sufficient notice for most cake orders. Wedding cakes require at least 3 months notice, whereas, celebration cakes require a minimum of 2 weeks. To ensure quality, we take ony a limited number of wedding cake orders. To avoid disappointment, book as early as possible to reserve your date. When ordering, please provide the following information:

  • the date of your event
  • the occassion/nature of your event (i.e. wedding, birthday, baby shower)
  • delivery or pickup
  • how many people you will need to feed
  • a phone number in which we can contact you
  • what flavour of cake you would like
  • an idea of what kind of design you are looking for

Are you licensed?

Yes. Just Like Gram’s is fully licensed by the city of Fort St. John and Northern Health. As well, all cakes and baked goods are prepared in a health inspected kitchen.

How much do you charge?

Since each cake is one-of-a-kind, the prices for our cakes vary. The more detail that you can give me when requesting a quote, the faster I can give an estimate. The total cost for a cake depends on the amount of decorative detail and the number of servings. The base price for our cakes is $6.00 a serving.

Where are you located?

Our studio is located 25 min north of Fort St. John, BC on Hwy 97N.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by cash, cheque, Visa or Mastercard.

Do you hold consultations?

Yes. We provide consultations for all wedding cake orders serving 50 people or more. Consultations are by appointment only. The following information would be helpful to bring along: date of event, venue location, number of guests attending, style of cake desired, flavour ideas, and approximate budget. Feel free to bring along any additional items such as fabric swatches, cake topper or color samples. Your consultation should take about 60-90 minutes. Please arrive on time as we may have other consultations booked immediately after yours. Please call ahead if you must cancel your consultation. Due to limited seating space, we allow for 2 people and 1 additional guest. Since this appointment can be lengthly, we recommend that children be left at home. We require a non-refundable 50% deposit to book your wedding cake and to hold your date.

We’re on a tight budget for our wedding, can you work with us?

Yes. At Just Like Gram’s we are more than willing to work with you in choosing a cake that fits within your budget.

Can I order my wedding cake from you and additional cakes from a different baker?

No. Please note… as with many other cake designers and bakers, I will not provide a wedding cake when party, sheet, groom’s cakes, cupcakes or fake/faux cakes are purchased or provided by a different vendor. Please realize that I have worked hard building my reputation on great tasting cakes and I can’t have your guests thinking that a cake from another vendor is something I produced. This protects the reputation of both chefs/bakers. Thank you for understanding.

Do you make your cakes and desserts from scratch?

Yes. At Just Like Gram’s all our products are made using the finest ingredients. We use 100% unsalted butter, fresh eggs, homemade jams and jellies and hand-picked locally grown fruits. By choosing Just Like Gram’s, you ensure your cake includes quality ingredients.

What is a “Party” Cake?

A “Party” cake has the same number of layers and flavourings as the main wedding cake does, however, it is kept in the kitchen where the caterer is able to cut up it up while the guests are eating their dinner. This cake is not decorated to the same extent that the main wedding cake is, but is the exact same cake layers and flavours.

Do you do "Smash" cakes?

Yes, we do. We offer either a giant cupcake or a 6" round cake.  Smash cakes are only sold when ordered in conjunction with a larger cake. We do not accept orders for these cakes separately.

Do you ship your cakes?

We do not ship our cakes.

Do you do cake tastings?

Yes. You may schedule a cake tasting with us when you call to book your wedding consultation. There will be various cake flavours and filling options to mix and match. Our cake tastings are subject to a non-refundable $25 fee payable by either Mastercard or Visa. Cake tastings are available for all wedding cakes serving 50 or more. Since we prepare our samples fresh, we must receive payment at least 24 hrs prior to the scheduled tasting appointment. Should you choose to book your wedding cake with Just Like Gram’s, the $25 fee will be applied to your order. Please note that all our consultations are confirmed to a 24hr cancellation policy. If you miss your appointment, your fee will not be refunded. At this time, we do not offer tastings for special occasion cakes.

Do you provide fresh flowers to decorate my cake?

No. Any flowers that you want placed on your cake will have to be ordered from your florist and delivered to your location. Be advised that certain flowers are toxic and should not be placed on your cake. Feel free to ask us for a list of edible flowers.

I have a food allergy. Can you accomodate certain dietary restrictions?

Although I can make a nut-free, egg-free, dairy-free or gluten-free cakes, I can not guarantee a truly allergen-free kitchen.

Isn't it cheaper to get a fake cake with sheet cakes?

No.  The majority of the cost of a cake, especially in a wedding cake, is the actual time it takes to decorate.  The cost of the styrofoam dummies can cost as much as the cost of the ingredients.  In addition, there is the still the cost of decorating the dummy and the cost of baking and decorating the sheet cakes.

What other baked goods do you offer?

At Just Like Gram’s we provide more than just cakes. We offer freshly baked muffins, cookies, breads and desserts. We would be happy to help you select a variety of goodies to suit your needs.
